The first painting in my Aldebergh Series inspired by all the fishing detritus on the beach in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. The work is about the threads that tie us to the land, our families, the tangled webs we weave and the umbilical cord connecting us with our beginnings.

This painting was selected by the IEA and The Gallery, Holt, Norfolk into the IEA Open Exhibition 2021.

A mixed media piece for the band KYANOS and used as the album cover for their Isolation Tape produced during Covid 19 Lockdown 1. All proceeds were sent towards providing PPE for NHS workers.

My largest painting to date, and exciting to paint. The Words & Paint series is about expressing deep feelings. I wanted to portray the calm that can be felt if allowing yourself the space to breathe even if feeling a bit out of your depth. Words are embedded into the painting, not discernible in the finished piece, they are there none the less.

Exploring horizons for me, runs deep. I find the horizon line symbolic of of a lid, to keep a lid on my emotions. As children, my sister and I used to love standing at the shoreline feeling the sand eroded from under our feet with each passing wave. Here I am connecting with the detail of the tiny gems under the earth at our feet which each grain of sand represents.

The inspiration for this piece was Barn Field in Hessett full of Linseed in flower with Oil Seed Rape in the distance. You may see water, linseed in flower from a distance indeed can be interpreted as a lake. I’m deeply influenced by the flat Suffolk landscape and the enormous skies we benefit from.

I sat and sketched the beach at Winterton on Sea in the summer of 2020, when the weather was baking hot and we had been allowed out of lockdown and able to travel from our homes. The Dunes Cafe was a long standing land mark at the beach and the source of many a cooling ice cream or warming cup of tea in the Autumn and Winter.

Later that year a grand winter storm threatened its existence and so it was removed.

I felt compelled to later paint this image when once again the fragile East Coast was threatened once again by erosion.

Equilibrium was one of those works that lead me on a very merry dance. We pushed and we pulled, we lightened and darkened, and finally arrived at a place of balance.

I have a deep connection to this piece and was glad it didn't find it's forever home at the first showing, although it came close. I have questioned what made it so important to me. Firstly I think because it took so long to reach a conclusion, but also because I was able to bring a number of elements together, my love of balance, simplicity and line.
